IPL is now just like another name for money…glamour…superstars…and entertainment. Eat cricket, sleep cricket and watch cricket! This seems to be the new formula for the citizens of India with IPL being the centre of attraction. IPL has globalised the looks of cricket with a touch of glamour from all angles. IPL has given a different angle to CRICKET. A glamour quotient has been added to d game which now attracts not only the cricket lovers but also non-cricket lovers and there entertainment factor is not cricket basically but glamour and a tremendous dose of bollywood and superstars.
It’s a very debatable topic as people have their own respective views and considerations. There are million of dollars poured into it and packed with world class cricketing stars. Hence its sure to attract huge crowd. Celebrities like Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty etc &top class businessmen like Vijay mallaya, mukesh ambani etc and big organizations are associated to it.
Cheerleaders are a major element of this glamour factor in IPL as this concept of cheerleading was initially introduced in cricket with IPL itself. And there are celebrities involved with every single team either in form of owners or lucky mascot or friends. There are after parties after almost every single match of IPL which actually seems like a merge of glamour with cricket.
It has of corse affected the seriousness of the game. Some people don’t agree with the concept of twenty twenty in cricket as it changed the meaning of the game overall and IPL has taken it a step ahead. IPL is more about money and less about the game. The focus in IPL shifts from prestige of a coubtry to the huge money involved.
So its all the same from where it started. IPL has changed the entire concept of cricket and the focus is not on national interest but the team and money but IPL has also provided a platform where the greats of the game are quite open to giving encouragement and motivation to the youngsters and giving them lessons on pros and cons of the game.
But there is still this question that “Is IPL all about glitz and glamour despite the age-old glory of the gentleman's game?
